UN postpones Ocean Conference

The United Nations has postponed the Conference of the Oceans, which would take place in Portugal between the 2nd and 6th of June. The new Coronavirus pandemic made the event unfeasible this year. Divers for Sharks was one of the organizations that would participate in the meeting.

Registration for the conference has also been suspended and there are still no new dates for the event. The meeting would discuss the 17 Sustainable Development Goals or 2030 Agenda, in which the member countries of the United Nations must meet the goals. With only 10 years to go, the UN calls the period ‘Decade of Action’.

The purpose of the Conference of the Oceans was to discuss how science can be the basis for starting a new chapter for actions in the oceans.
